Many people have asked us if there are any risk of snakes or insects in Island. There is no fear of snakes and insects in Mousuni. But yes, don’t board the fisherman’s boats without permission or touch.
There is no problem with the mobile network on Island 4G connectivity works fine. But mobile networks become a problem when there are many guests. There are some camps that provide free WiFi.
From Sealdah take Namkhana local and get down to Namkhana. Then reach the 10-mile or 7-mile ghat by toto. By boat across the Chinnai River, Toto will take you to the camp. If you go by road, you have to drive to Bakkhali via Amtala, Diamond Harbor, and Kakdwip to reach Namkhana, and then drive 10-mile or 7-mile ghat parking. Esplanade to Bakkhali bus service is available.
Mousuni Island – a beautiful blend of sea, sun, sand, river, and isolation. The unexplored island may be used as a weekend getaway from work-related stress and challenging situations. But, before we get into the intriguing complexities of this relatively unknown vacation destination, let’s go over some background information.
Mousuni Island is a little island in the “Sunderban” delta, far from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Mousuni Island is regarded as one of the best one-day weekend escapes from Kolkata. Mousuni Island is around 138 kilometers from Kolkata through Namkhana. Mousuni Island is a virgin island found within a Namkhana block subdivision. During the British occupation of India, the island was found. The island was largely used by the British to carry salt and dried fish. Because fishing and agriculture are the two main sources of income for the population of Mousuni Island, visitors to the island commonly see local fishermen drying their fishing nets in the sun or mending their trawlers, as well as local women weaving new fish nets. The fun and excitement don’t stop once you board the ferry to Mousuni Island. Wildlife enthusiasts, bird watchers, and landscape photographers all go to Mousuni Island.
By Bike – By motorcycle, you must travel from Kolkata to Bakkhali via Diamond Harbour/Kakdwip/Namkhana, cross the Namkhana Bridge / Hatania-Doania river bridge toll, and continue traveling for another 30 minutes or so. Next, ask locals for directions to the 10 Mile Bazaar, where you must turn right to reach the Patibunia Ferry Ghat. You may keep your own bike at the Patibunia Ferry Ghat or you can ride across on it. Boats frequently transport motorbikes to the jetty. After crossing the river from Patibunia Ferry Ghat, you must ask a local where LAVICA DELUXE COTTAGE & RESORT is located.
By Train – To begin, travel to Namkhana Railway Station from Sealdha Station or the nearest railway station to your starting point. From Namkhana Station, you can reserve a toto, Maruti van, motor van, or Maximo (depending on your group size) for either Putibunia Ghat or Hujjuter Ghat. Another option is to take a bus from Namkhana Bus Stand to 10 Mile Bazaar. After crossing the river from the Patibunia Ferry Ghat, get toto at a rickshaw stop and ask for the LAVICA DELUXE COTTAGE & RESORT .
By Bus – You can board Kolkata to Bakkhali private or Govt bus from Esplanade bus stand and get down 10 Mile Bazaar. From there take Toto (e-rickshaw). After crossing the river from Patibunia Ferry Ghat , you will get toto at rickshaw stand and ask them for LAVICA DELUXE COTTAGE & RESORT (It’s a 15 min journey)
By car – By car, you must travel from Kolkata to Bakkhali via Diamond Harbour/ Kakdwip/ Namkhana, cross the Namkhana Bridge / Hatania-Doania river bridge toll, and continue traveling for another 30 minutes or so. Next, ask locals for directions to the 10 Mile Bazaar, where you must turn right to reach the Patibunia Ferry Ghat. Unfortunately, it is not feasible to drive a car all the way to Mousuni Island. The Chinai River can only be crossed by boat; thus, tourists must leave their car/ traveller at our parking (Paid parking) and, after crossing the river from Patibunia Ferry Ghat, take a toto at the rickshaw stand and inquire for LAVICA DELUXE COTTAGE & RESORT.
Yes, there are accommodation options on Mousuni Island. However, they are limited and mostly consist of basic guesthouses and eco-resorts. These accommodations offer a rustic experience, and amenities may be basic. It's advisable to book your stay in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons.
Popular activities on Mousuni Island include sunbathing, swimming, beachcombing, and nature walks along the pristine beaches. Exploring the mangrove forests and tidal creeks is also a highlight. Additionally, you can interact with the local fishing community, experience their way of life, and try your hand at fishing.
The best time to visit Mousuni Island is during the winter months, from October to February. The weather during this period is pleasant with mild temperatures, making it suitable for outdoor activities. It's also advisable to avoid the monsoon season (June to September) due to heavy rainfall and the cyclone-prone nature of the region.
